MASSEY FERGUSON CLUTCH PEDAL SETTINGS After repairing the pressure plate assembly correct installation is important for proper functioning of the tractors clutch. In a previous article we discussed the pressure plate settings. The final adjustment is the clutch pedal. This setting is not only after repairing the clutch system but also a routine check to prevent damage to internal components.
Using two 3/4" spanners slacken bolt B. Place a phillips screwdriver through hole A and turn shaft fully clockwise. Lift clutch pedal by hand until there is a 6mm gap between the bracket C & gearbox housing. Retighten bolt B ensuring that it is extremely tight. Failure to do so will result in the bracket slipping on the shaft during operation.
The clutch pedal must have sufficient travel to release first stage 2as well as second stage 3 before coming into contact with the foot rest plate. Conversly once second stage has been achieved there must not be too much further travel as this will depress the pressure plate fingers too far in to a point where it is possible that they come into contact with the PTO plate centre rivets.
To achieve the correct balance between a comfortable operating height & releasing of both stages adjust rod 1.
